CONIX Systems’ ORBS has been the leading balancing solution for the IBM CPCS check processing system since 1973. Banks use ORBS to balance more transactions than any other system in the world.
Over the years, CONIX Systems has continued to invest in ORBS and its related products to consistently improve the performance of the CPCS balancing system and the preferred iCPCS balancing system. Most recently, ORBS’ capabilities were expanded with these additions:
- Better integration with SuPRRB®, the companion repass balancing system, to automatically update the repass with prime pass balancing changes
- Expansion of the identified error conditions
- Identification of item sequences that add up to the value of the out-of-balance condition, making it even easier for operators to find and correct error conditions
- Identification of offsetting batch differences
- Ability to view the kill and cash letter status of items without leaving the reconcilement screen
- Automatic insertion of petty difference adjustments using the bank’s defined thresholds
- Automatic correction of bundle and cash letter totals with balancing adjustments
Other changes have been made to improve ORBS’ ease of maintenance, resulting in reduced technical staff time required.

- Ability to focus attention on high-dollar adjustments and those made by less experienced operators to reduce risk of errors
- Ability to provide information to downstream systems, such as adjustments, to reduce the cost of managing cases and research
- Option to automatically fill needed fields when inserting deposit adjustments
Improving the Entire Check Processing Environment
ORBS integrates with other CONIX Systems products such as Cash Letter Administration System (CLAS®), Thin Client Viewer (TCV™), Customer Image Advice System (CIAS™), Integrated Balancing Option (IBO®) and ImageAnalyzer (IA™) to dramatically improve the CPCS process flow, especially for image exchange processing.
With these combined systems, users enjoy the following advantages:
Operators are more efficient because they no longer need to leave their work area when examining individual transactions to ensure accuracy. The check images and transit status are immediately available online.
Operators no longer need to be located at the capture site.
Cash letters are automatically updated with balancing changes as they are created. This reduces the number of adjustment cases opened and the error-prone, manual exchange of information between processing areas.
Cash letter and kill bundle data are available online to complete adjustment forms.
Paper and image cash letters are produced through the same process, providing the easiest transition to image exchange processing with no training or other investment required.
Customers are provided advices that include the modified transaction image so there are fewer service calls received.
Missing on-us MICR data from received image exchange transactions can be added without separate repair processing.
